Tensions between the U.S. and China have been high in the South China Sea. The U.S. navy has increased its deployment activities in the region, particularly since the beginning of July. Meanwhile U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently announced a formal rejection of the U.S. stance of not taking sides on the maritime disputes in the South China Sea, accusing Beijing of conducting a "campaign of bullying." Why exactly is the U.S. ramping up its military activities? How does this approach fit into the overall U.S. strategy towards China?

America wants to close the South China Sea to choke China's economic progress, hence America built 400+ bases surrounding China.  China knew America's intentions, started to fortify the islands and the road and belt initiative should America close the South China Sea, Malacca Straits a s Sundar Straits.   Should that happen,  China can use a port and a oil pipeline in Burma this bypassing this region.  China is a chess grandmaster while America is learning the rules of Checkers!   To the world, with all the American military might displayed,  it was assumed that china must be wetting their pants, however to the Chinese,  these are sitting ducks that are hard to miss and this region will definitely benefit with some artificial reefs and fish foods.

USA is losing the influence in the South Asian countries so it is trying to show that it is still relevant in the area by showing off its military naval capabilities. It is losing the number one status.  What the USA does not understand is that the Philippines and China have long historical ties and blood ties.  Lately,  Filipinos and Chinese Filipinos are starting to remember the Philippines-American War, when there was a Filipino genocide done by the USA soldiers during the occupation.  Just google,  you will see. They never showed that in the textbooks in school in the Philippines, then.  Over 300 000 Filipinos, Chinese Filipinos, and Moro Muslims were wiped out by the Americans. Until to this day, USA government has not formally admitted or apologized to the Philippines.

Very sad to see the desparation of the Americans, not a very gracious decline. Let's hope the Americans don't put their young men in harms way, I'm afraid it would be a slaughter judging from the way their ships seem to catch fire with what appears to be non-existent fire control systems.

Thank you for the upload. It broadens my perspective in understanding the events in that part of the world. The Trump administration assertion of empire building by military force in the South China Sea is not adequately discussed in this upload. Militarization of the areas in dispute is problematic because CCP doesn't have monopoly of military power. Nor does the US. The countries concerned should have a peaceful, diplomatic not military solution. The only power in that Sea with overwhelming sea power is CCP. They will dictate terms if allowed to. From the US government position, they are not dictating any military terms just diplomatic process. Correct?
