Mao Zedong created The People’s Republic; Deng Xiaoping created China’s economic miracle. Deng was a practical man, a man to get things done, not much of a talker.

Deng won the trust and confidence of Mao and the army Marshalls during the long days and hard battles of the Long March. After the communists took Beijing, Deng was given charge of the South-West. His job involved cleaning up the remnants of the Kuomintang, controlling discontent in Tibet, and supervising Mao’s Red Line program to move defense industry inland, where it would be hidden and safe from any invasion from the east. Deng was very efficient and was promoted up the Party ranks fast.

Actually, it's not some miracle nor magic formula.

Focus on real education (not McUniversities), infrastructure, and fight poverty like fighting a war.

Japan did it, Singapore did it, Korea did it, China did it. No shortcut.

Very good documentary. Just to add my perspective on Chinese communism. The Chinese communism has always been rather different from the soviet communism. During mao's time they started the revolution from the rural areas instead of from the cities which is what the comintern advocated. Deng brought a new dimension to Chinese communism by advocating economic reforms. Good work guys a very objective description of the events that followed and letting people form their own ideas about china and the CCP 👍.

Chairman Mao, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang & Zhu, and Xi, they each unleash a stage of China that surprises both the world and Chinese. But I deny Hu & Wen a progressive era. Superficially so, yet Hu and Wen let all levels of bureaucrats control the money printing and credit flow in the name of "saving the US is saving China" out of the financial crisis. It was the corruptive official's feast and a massive wealth shift from the diluted private sector to the state companies and bureaucratic class. Hu and Wen's path was just a reverse of Zhu RongJi's. Unfortunately, the current premier is still a member of the youth league clique, and the bureaucratic class getting used to an easy superiority and comfort was already impossible to crush with any scaring anti-corruption purge. They are waiting for and try to vegetate through Xi's biological limit.

If I remember correctly, Deng, Jiang, and Hu were from the same faction, but Xi is from a different faction that struggled the power away from the old faction.
