This week's show is dedicated to a discussion of the signs of US capitalism's decline. Wolff explores the passage of US capitalism from its birth, through its state-supported growth and expansion, to its global peaking from 1945 to 2000. He presents the causes of its ongoing decline this 21st century, and then offers a conclusion on the right, center and left political responses to decline. Jo Jo 9 months ago Prof Wolff is giving me the economic education I never received at school. It really makes perfect sense to me. 156 Nota Bene Nota Bene 8 months ago “Slavery was never abolished, it was only extended to include all the colors.” ― Charles Bukowski 147 Kobina Sekyi Kobina Sekyi 9 months ago (edited) History with a healthy dose of economics. If students were taught this history, there wouldn't be all this jingoism. 253 treefrog3349 treefrog3349 9 months ago THIS is the type of history lesson our children SHOULD be receiving and that adults SHOULD be aware of. Instead, our society is being continually inflated with naive notions of American Exceptionalism and hyperbolic rah-rah self-congratulatory so-called "patriotism". "My country right-or wrong" sounds noble on its face but the persistent butchery of thousands of people in other lands, and the blatant neglect of its own people's health education and welfare tells another story. America is like a nation of abused children who cannot admit it even to themselves, 193 Frank Nakhai Frank Nakhai 9 months ago THE BEST OF PROFESSOR"S lecture, short , concise. as always. 112 nina schust nina schust 9 months ago Comment for the Algorithm. It's unfortunate that most North Americans would rather be entertained instead of being educated. 61 xelakram xelakram 9 months ago This is a great and informative video. Prof. Wolff has the remarkable ability to make complex economic and political developments, both current and historical, one coherent, understandable whole. He gives it all perspective and coherence. Having spent most of my adult life in the field of adult education and having originally majored in economics, I can state unequivocally that this ability is the mark of an extremely gifted teacher/lecturer/professor. It is a gift, a talent which so many scholars lack. Prof. Wolff's ability to make complex subjects both easy to understand and interesting is a strength indeed. Thank you, Prof. Wolff! 115 rippingtons60 rippingtons60 9 months ago I learn more about history and economics from Richard Wolff's programs than I EVER did in school. 55 Scott Leon Scott Leon 9 months ago I feel like I get smarter everytime I hear Richard Wolff talk :) 19 Erin C Erin C 9 months ago This was one of the best economic updates we have had this year.
