A Patron of Economic Update asks: "Hey Prof. Wolff, could you speak to the recent protests in Cuba? Specifically, could you speak to the U.S. embargo that economically squeezes Cuba and, if relevant, how it relates to these protests? I’m not super familiar with the details but I find it frustrating that all these pundits say 'Cuba wants freedom and their economy sucks cause they’re commies.' It’s pretty clear that there’s more to the story and they purposefully omit that."
This is Professor Richard Wolff's video response.

The United States political class and media apparatus are notorious for commenting and reporting on failing states as though they weren't responsible for their current condition (at least in part). Look at Haiti, look at Venezuela, look at Afghanistan, look at Iraq, look at Puerto Rico-- the list is endless across the globe. The U.S hegemon is leaving (in its wake) death, mayhem, chaos, destruction and suffering and its citizenry is so distracted with tribal conflicts that this activity goes unchecked.

If memory serves, Cuba was a massive sugar plantation prior to its revolution. If America had its way, most of Cuba would be regressed back to that plantation. Not that getting that massive plantation would mean a drop in food prices here - that would mean lost profits, and America can't have that. It's all about domination, resources and wealth.
Also, Cuba has made some spectacular advances in anti-cancer treatments recently, even with American interference. Go Cuba.

Prof. Wolff, can you please research & advocate for full intellectual property (IP) abolition? This is the most important activist aim for working class people!! IP abolition is the easiest & quickest way to an economy based on workers’ co-ops. And IP abolition is the most important aim to liberate artists & inventors & make them all better off financially.
Please see the work of Stephan Kinsella, Michele Boldrin, & David K. Levine. These are the best experts on intellectual property in the world. Everyone who cares about seriously improving things for humanity needs to know what IP abolition is about.

Cuba was not only cut off from trading with the US, its natural partner. Cuba was cut off from trading with most of the world, because the cost for other nations and companies, to challenge the US embargo is very high. They cannot even use SWIFT inter-bank system.
