Right on the point. Martin Jacques is one of the few Westerners who know China better than most Chinese.

This is perfect timing. Just when China, as well as Hong Kong, is in the news every day, receiving criticism and suspicion from many in the west.

I'll love to see you on Fox and CNN.  In fact, you should be invited to the US Congress to share your insights.

Using the ground of "security threat" to bury huawei (plus trade tariffs) in the hope of stopping China rise is entirely delusional..!
Thanks Professor for bringing clarity to all the viewers :)

Martin Jacques is great philosophy professor ever heard. He  is very dare to speak the different progress dynamic economy of true fact of China.Even the WTO,IMF,ADB,UN and many big organizations of western didnt give China much credit for reducing 800 million out of provety on their self system without outside influence.Outside know how to keep on insulting  China.China help development accusations of death trap for infrastructure, but the US spending 700 $ million on defense to maintain military power to destroy ,destabilize dislike countries. That called death traps, refused to pay any money that owe.Even Owe UNSC fees $m due.Collected all allied fees ranged from $1 b to 20$ b eg South Korea,British ,and many more.Safe fees from Climate change withdrawal as members, but only know always bad practice donate to destabilize, chaos ,riot other dislike countries eg HKSAR and China.Good to refer :YouTube- Nathan Rich, George Galloway, Richard Wolff, www.globalreaserch.ca.  ,The Last Vagabond of American. Kishore Mahbubani,CGNT ,THESE ARE ALMOST FAR MORE BEST TRUE FACTS THAN ALL OTHER  RUBBISH ENGLISH WESTERN MEDIA.EG FOXNEWS,BBC,CCN,CNBC,ASIA TIMES,SCMP ALL ONSIDE NEWS,INQUIRED,UK TIMES .

It seems that zealotry, be it religious or ideological, is not in the Chinese genes. The Chinese regimes in history lacked the drive to expand, conquest or colonialize, nor did they seek to "change" the way people live beyond its borders.

The pictures of Chairman Mao keeping both his hands firmly inserted in his tunic’s pockets while Nixon stretched out his hand for the handshake, come to mind. But, more importantly, what was stated by Chairman Mao tells all about his foresight about the nature, direction and clear vision that he expressed before entering into cooperation with the US.
He said  “ I don’t think our common friend would appreciate this meeting“, again clearly stating that Taiwan would be unhappy and would remain a stumbling block to whatever is being declared to be desired here today. Chairman Mao was so very correct to understand that, in and for the future, China would stay very alert at this arrangement. What Nixon and his whisperers within his entourage, did not see, while walking on the Great Wall of China, is that China knew, from its past history, it would need a Great Wall to keep the intrusions of the new friendships’ effects of envy expressed as economic sanctions at bay.
