This extraordinary Eucharistic hymn, by the great St. Thomas Aquinas, is a fan favourite among the faithful. This version regretably leaves out the second verse. The recording is from the CD illuminations, compiled by Dan Gibson. the Latin text and English translation follow:

Pange, lingua, gloriosi
Corporis mysterium,
Sanguinisque pretiosi,
quem in mundi pretium
fructus ventris generosi
Rex effudit Gentium.

Nobis datus, nobis natus
ex intacta Virgine,
et in mundo conversatus,
sparso verbi semine,
sui moras incolatus
miro clausit ordine.

In supremae nocte coenae
recumbens cum fratribus
observata lege plene
cibis in legalibus,
cibum turbae duodenae
se dat suis manibus.

Verbum caro, panem verum
verbo carnem efficit:
fitque sanguis Christi merum,
et si sensus deficit,
ad firmandum cor sincerum
sola fides sufficit.

Tantum ergo Sacramentum
veneremur cernui:
et antiquum documentum
novo cedat ritui:
praestet fides supplementum
sensuum defectui.

Genitori, Genitoque
laus et jubilatio,
salus, honor, virtus quoque
sit et benedictio:
Procedenti ab utroque
compar sit laudatio.
Amen.

Sing, my tongue, the Savior's glory,
of His flesh the mystery sing;
of the Blood, all price exceeding,
shed by our immortal King,
destined, for the world's redemption,
from a noble womb to spring.

Of a pure and spotless Virgin
born for us on earth below,
He, as Man, with man conversing,
stayed, the seeds of truth to sow;
then He closed in solemn order
wondrously His life of woe.

On the night of that Last Supper,
seated with His chosen band,
He the Pascal victim eating,
first fulfills the Law's command;
then as Food to His Apostles
gives Himself with His own hand.

Word-made-Flesh, the bread of nature
by His word to Flesh He turns;
wine into His Blood He changes;
what though sense no change discerns?
Only be the heart in earnest,
faith her lesson quickly learns.

Down in adoration falling,
This great Sacrament we hail,
Over ancient forms of worship
Newer rites of grace prevail;
Faith will tell us Christ is present,
When our human senses fail.

To the everlasting Father,
And the Son who made us free
And the Spirit, God proceeding
From them Each eternally,
Be salvation, honor, blessing,
Might and endless majesty.
Amen.

I used to be southern baptist, but now I am Catholic and it was one of the best decision I had ever made.

Is it weird that I'm totally obsessed with any Gregorian hymns, and I'm only 16 years old? Sometimes I really think I'm just odd. I can't help it though, I will never get tired of it.

So proud for being a Catholic. I thank my mom for teaching me the faith even though she had many troubles for doing so. My dad's family kicked her out, they took me away from her, sent her back to Ireland, they prevented us from talking with eachother for 5 years even on phone and never ever told me why they did all those. Years later I converted to Christianity on my own and what they feared became true and they blamed me and my mom for everything. My "father" disowned me. I still did not see my mom face to face. God willing I will go to Ireland after this year, I asked for my transfer to an Irish university. I will go there this Christmas no matter what. God bless each and everyone of you.

It is impossible to translate this beaty in any language.
St. Thomas made it impeccable.

Please pray for me brothers and sisters im struggling with habitual mortal sin, I have a lot of anger and hatred in my heart. Pray that the lord will give me time to get back to confessions, sometimes I've gone and wasn't absolved, my life has felt meaningless lately.

I am extremely greatful to the Church of God for this heavenly type of music. I have been discerning the priesthood and this type of adoration is what keeps letting me know that becoming a priest is the best thing that can ever happen to me, if I decide to take that path. I have attended the Traditional Latin Mass and other parishes with Gregorian Chant. As a future priest (God willing) I will strive to revive this type of sacred adoration (Gregorian Chant)

I believe Catholicism is the religion of Christ and there is evidence to support it. It’s not only my roots, it’s my wings.

I was a protestant until I went by curiosity to an adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, I ended up saying "My Lord and my God". The Eucharist, the treasure of the true Church, made possible by the true priesthood, the catholic priesthood, and every mass.... a marriage supper of the Lamb!

i am a Catholic. I wish that they do a Latin mass in our parish. the english mass is fine. it's just that with traditional Latin mass, it's more reverent. with these hymns, one can feel serene at least..

This one makes me cry. Gregorian chant, gentle music and the peaceful and pretty sounds of nature. I do not want to be in this broken world anymore. I want to go home. But I can't go until Jesus calls me. I am weak and broken, I am nothing but that is okay. I have got to hold the line and fight bravely till the end. May God strengthen me.

Nada se compara en belleza y beatitud!  Se debe regresar a los tiempos del canto gregoriano en la Santa Misa.
