About Has China Won?

Kishore Mahbubani, a diplomat and public intellectual with unrivaled access to policymakers in Beijing and Washington, and Graham Allison, Harvard University professor and author of bestseller "Destined for War", will shed light on the shifting global order in the time of coronavirus and what it will mean for businesses and our lives for many years to come. Financial Time's columnist Rana Foroohar will moderate the talk. This event is timed to coincide with the publication of Mahbubani’s new book, "Has China Won?"

Kishore and Graham almost exactly represented how an Asian intellectual vs an American counterpart thinks and behaves. Kishore looks humble, diplomatic, and intelligent. Graham, while also intelligent, yet shows unwillingness to adapt to changes (still holding on to his Thucydides theory) and excessive confidence (US will always win at the end). But the key misconception that many Americans even including Graham is it is NOT China’s goal to win anything, their sole goal is to improve Chinese people’s life, while America’s mentality is winning at all cost.

Kishore knows Chinese culture very well. Chinese have long believed that only strongman leaders are able to maintain social prosperity and stability. Chinese also believe that strong government will ensure them to live and work in peace. Most Chinese believe education and hardworking will bring them lots of fortune. Since young,  they were taught to plan ahead, always prepared for the worst and not to spend future's money so if anything happened suddenly they won't get panic easily.

US has been sucking up the whole world for decades: mounting debts, super-inflated bubble economy, US should had been broke for many years. But still people like Ian Bremmer are pounding their chest and shouting: we are the best economy, we are the best country, we are the best people. Why? because they can print money, and use that valueless paper to buy off your valuable assets, that's DOLLAR COLONIALISM!!! I SAY NO to dollar colonialism! NO MORE $$$.

Rana, it took six months to the US to comunícate the WHO the outbreak of H1N1. So, when you say China was opaque in her communication, because it took one month, what are your standards?

No, China hasn't win or lose... China just wanna get along with the rest of the global community unlike the US which is only interested in winning and using every devious and devilish methods in the book to stop and destroy countries that don't kneel to them.

COVID-19 not only has brought up the structural weakness of the US, but also demonstrated the victim mentality of the Americans - always trying to play the blame game on China..................such a low blow.

The truth is China didn't want to play any games and to win. All they want is to be left alone. The West force the game on China and losing and now whining about it.

Kishore pointed out some crucial factor towards the end of discussion -  historical & cultural aspect of China which no one really seems to understand.  The west always look at China and judge with their own set of lenses.  The Chinese "meritocracy", efficient as it may sound,  probably will not work for the western countries because the people simply do not have the same mindset as well as the idea of governance.

George Galloway in one of his videos stated that the US in the early 1990s wanted to use Al Qaeda to attack China, especially in Xinjiang. Its a well known fact that Al Qaeda is the creation of Saudi Arabia and the USA. Al Qaeda's ideology is based on radical Salafist Wahhabism, the state religion of Saudi Arabia. But instead, Al Qaeda turned on the US. And 9/11 happened. The US reaped what it sowed. As the Yiddish saying goes 'Man make plans, but God laughs'. The US plays a dangerous and insidious game and makes diabolical plans using Islamic Terrorism to undermine other countries making it a state sponsor of terrorism. So the Almighty turns His wrath on this country which is a warmongering lawless rogue state. Like 9/11, we wonder what the Almighty will have in store for the US abomination? It wouldn't be pretty.

The behaviour of the US using terrorism to undermine countries continues. The US transported thousands of Jihadists from Afghanistan to fight the Syrian government. A civil war that has killed more than 500,000 people and destroyed property and infrastructure worth 600 billion. Pity the Syrian people.

Kishore is correct in that China has taken the stage as the new builders of the 21st century. What he fails to mention is that the US has taken the role of the destroyer.

The US struggles to remain on top by playing the bully, but China and Russia are the new strong men on the playground and the majority of the world is aligning behind them.  The $64,000 question is, will there even be a playground when the inevitable struggle ends?

I am a Dutchman living in France, who is convinced The EU can only survive, when it breaks with The American Military Empire and conducts an independent foreign policy. For The Eu it is a matter of life and death! Sooner ot later this is going to happen. By the way, the late Lee Kuan Yew predicted this many years ago.
Furthermore, I am convinced the Chinese and other Asian peoples understand The West better than The West understands the Chinese and Asia at large.

Prof Kishore is real diplomat in how he answered those questions but he still made his point. China will gain if US is still slumbering away and feeding its ego and pride. More and more countries are knocking at China's door. You are absolutely correct Prof.

I am troubled with the west keep on telling that China’s opacity of covet 19 when it started in Wuhan, but never have heard any fact of Chinese's wrong doing, they locked down Wuhan just before Chinese new year which is the most important event of the year for family reunion. What is the advantage for Chinese government to hide, and then for the statistics of this covet 19 shows me any country in the world has the correct statistics. I am really sick of China hater from everywhere but the lost of the west. losing it's hegemony has nothing to do with you everyday's people.

the west may feel uncomfortable about Kishore's words.. I saw comment asking how much Kishore is taking from CCP..  I think we can see another perspective, Chinese ppl are actually quite weak on talk or propaganda and only good at doing things.. and the west was too used to the humble Chinese voice.

I saw lots ppl here saying China hide truth, and can’t be trusted by history. I was wondering what happened to massive destruction weapons in Iraq? Did U.S find it? Or just hide the truth and make an excuse? Let’s bring the blame game on. We know lots Americans would say after they messed up. They lie: it’s not my fault...

Actually, you have to look at the question in this way: When China is going backwards in Americans' eyes, that means China is doing things right; if Americans are hailing for what China is doing and Xi Jinping is doing, that is a big problem for China.
