the name of the book should be "When China Leads the World." We Chinese do not like to rule others.

My grand parents, on both sides, emigrated from Southern China into Thailand. In their generation down to my father's, most oversea Chinese were not interested in politics; the only thing they want was just to make decent livings. Maybe, this in a sense extrapolates to the way China deals with the world outside. As we might note, nowadays Chinese leaders have been traveling to a variety of nations almost all on economic and trade relations. In verbal terms, they abstain themselves from expressing opinion on domestic affairs of other nations. This is very unlike the way the U.S. government behave abroad; e.g. convincing, criticizing or dominating some foreign governments (surely not going along with the way Washington D.C. wants to see), more and more to the extent that they sometimes are behind the overthrow of some government. Human right is another issue that the U.S. government like to raise against any targeted country. If one wants to give an inclusive list of the U.S. government interference in other countries' affairs, she or he has to take a lot of time to type. So I like to stop here. Thanks for your reading.

I believe that the western influence r in decline. I believe that #TheRiseOfAsiaIsTheRedemptionOfTheWorld.
China is doing the right thing for focusing more in economic growth and development rather than military force. I can't wait to see China build more #ModernMarvels like the #NewSilkRoad and the #NicaraguanCanal. That's what I like from China. #AllEyesOnTheEast thumbs up if you agree 👍🤑

5 years ago, everyone thought he was crazy af, 2017, everything he said either came true or on its way to become true, all I can say is: Duterte is also a visionary, the New Silk Road will make Asia great again, Im impressed by the intelligence of Philippine people, I doubt other countries would have elected him.

Omg... I'm Malaysian Chinese. I'm extremely shocked of Martin's opinion about the China especially when I am watching this after 4 years later. Apparently, his prediction of South China Sea territory issue are mostly happening right now. And his understanding of Chinese culture is so much accurate. Oh my goodness, please ! Martin , don't show up on the public anymore. I don't wanna more westerners knowing so well about China.
Moreover, I really admire you that you could analyse so well about China as a British.

What an opening salvo for a confused Filipino. Martin has made me realize the the truth. Filipinos have been westernized, Americanized and spoiled by American values.: arrogance, materialism, liberal sexuality, and Spiritual decay. Filipinos want to be American. They like the culture. Filipinos used to be Godly and even religious, obedient to their parents, know how to pray. But now, they will do anything to be like American (plastic surgery of anything you want to change just to look like an American), and they have lost RESPECT for women. I don't know if Filipinos even want to be called Filipinos especially those who are products of western impregnatiion. Some Filipinos are now arrogant, esp. those who have lived in the US.
Now, the US is losing its position as the richest, most powerful country because of their greed and power to rule the world (the New World Order). They have poisoned the world via their powerful Media control. They made up lies to brain-wash the people. But now, thru the power of Internet and easy access to world news, we can know both sides of the story. So, be on the alert! Don't be fooled.

2019, and it seems very much like Martin Jacques got it right, just that he underestimated the speed of the progress, and China's resolve to promote trade, peace, and cooperation, rather than USA's war and bullying tactics combined with incredible lies approach.
Also, reading Xi Jinping's 'The Governance of China', one sees what plans the Chinese government have to make it a better world for all. So, all the best wishes for China's and our future, and for the end of US as world hegemon.

Martin Jacques is one very few that can understand China in a very intellectual capacity.
He talks in term of real, value and conceptual level about China while the Filipino is at a level that
just to get some simple facts correctly and precisely is problematic. What can you do with people
and their country like that?

People needs to be easy on Pinos. Lots of Pinos have Chinese blood even after the massecres happened during the Spanish rule. They are people who have been oppressed very hard by western powers. The west promote poverty and corruption in PH so they can control the corrupted politicians. So take it easy guys. Peace.

After listening to this video, I realized why Philippines is what it is today. This makes me think that the Philippines should be continuing to be under the control of the US and see how far it will go in compare with other Asian countries that take different approach. I also realized that Philippines has a very weak self-identity because of the Western colonization. A country without strong self-identity will not be successful.

When Martin Jacques said the country is growing extremely fast, Filipino host kept interrupting and thought he meant Philippine. When Martin said he meant China, then she said Philippine was growing too. Stupid of her, without China importing food from Philippine and without Philippine exporting their women to work overseas and sending back money, Philippine is not growing.

By history, those islands in the South China Sea must be Chinese.
Countries that were maritime active those days could never be the Philippines, or the Vietnamese. Even the French and Spaniard got more say. China was maritime active at that time, the Ming Dynasty in particular. These were the front posts where Chinese marine traders and military outing stopped and take refuge when the sea turned rough. The great admiral Cheng Ho was one of those Chinese maritime generals. He is most popularly quoted because he had gone the most times, 7 in good record.
If you do not accept reason and logic, of course you can't talk, it is not a matter of small country talking to big country. The UNCLOS part came much later, and China clearly stated exclusivity in acknowledging the UNCLOS, while the US choose not to acknowledge the UNCLOS at all. So each country has got its own view point. Then again, the UNCLOS is no mean to settle dispute, it is stated in its agenda.
The US is much stronger than China militarily. And it is the US intention to contain China's progress in overtaking her. Free sea passage is just a pretext. The US interest in Asia was and is always here. The US needs not rebalance, repivot, .. its just rhetoric. The fact is the US interest in Asia is getting smaller, to contain China is one way to strengthen herself. Prior to this, there was no dispute of any kind. In short, it is the opportunists coupled with the hidden agenda of the US that created this mess in SCS.

Absolutely right! China is the center of gravity in modern civilization, so this reality in modern history cannot be ignored. Principally, countries in the East should be able to realize it correctly because otherwise they get collapsed without their knowledge.

Most westerners know too little about Chinese, especially they can't understand the logical, the sense and feeling of Chinese. Their knowledge is always European centralized and they are narrow minded. On the contrary, apart from their own languages and cultures, many east Asian people know much about west world and they have learnt some European languages, especilly English. As a native Han Chinese, I think Martin really knows some about Chinese, especially some key points, but still lack of many details. There are enormous too many things of China from very long times ago, over 3000 years, to present.

This man has brilliant insight. He must be happy to see it is now happening with a new truly independent thinking President in the Phillipines. As an Australian we also as a nation are gradually but surely seeing our future in Asia even though we are still predominantly European descent. How we get this through to other Western thickheads especially in the USA and the UK is the problem. Both with there typical Colonialist attitudes and still convinced how exceptional they are. We get them in Australia also. Usually of British descent. It unfortunately is built into there brain and stops them facing facts and seeing reality.

That is why it is much better to cooperate with China, sit down and talk one on one regarding the plans in West PH Sea instead of relying support from USA. Pres. Ferdinand Marcos predicted that China will rise thus he recommended all to be friends with China and have cooperation. We are so busy dealing our internal issues like Rebels in Mindanao and Communist group all over the PH thats is why we are left behind by our neighbors.

Americans and westerners attack China for not having democracy. My question is that how much do you know about China and its history? You westerners claim that only your ways of doing things is correct and practical. But what you fail and refuse to acknowledge is that for about 16 centuries of the past 20 centuries, China was the world's biggest economy , supported by substantially historical evidence. What is happening with China's growth is just that things are going back to its natural order. China has always had a central government, it is not just now that China has a central government. China's emperors in the past were very open and supportive to the people. Most of the emperors were recorded in history and described by people as figures that love the citizens as much as their own children. So, it is just so disgusting that the west is misleading with so many prejudices against China. Chinese culture promotes peaceful ideas and harmony. The world needs to unlearn about China, and then relearn about China. Especially the Americans, who are the most hypocritical to themselves, state that there is freedom of speech and blah blah blah, but people in some states can not even say which candicates they support without being attacked verbally. That is not freedom. True freedom should be from the inside, not just pretending.
We, Chinese, are not afraid of going war with the U.S. If you want to pick fights, then go ahead. But, we, Chinese, will NOT be the one to initiate it.

I think this guy is right. When you live in US for a while you wud have to agree with him. US is struggling now on economy. Every week you hear the news that another big company is going to lay off thousands of people. Decline is very obvious! When you look aroud most black people are wondering in streets with fat ass or dropping pants. They are all on welfare which means they taken care of by other working people. When they outpopulate others, US will just be another South Africa.
