[S9 E25] China's Economic Record and Strategy

This week on Economic Update, Professor Wolff follows up with part two of his in-depth analyses of the USSR and anti-capitalist governments by providing (1) an overview of China's economic development mostly over the last 25 years (GDP, real wages, etc.), and (2) its economic strategy: learning but also differing from Soviet strategy along with some relevant, and interesting, historical context.

Reagan did what he could to eliminate unions and was successful. I was making more per hour in 1980 than people doing the same job today. I have a union pension that workers today will not have. Simple numbers that most people ignore. Trickle down economics will never work.

Education and health of the people are the foundation of a nation. It has been ignored in the US by its government, crumbling, like the rest of its infrastructure. Unlike China, the US focused on market strangling, monopoly capitalism, and war. US invests in schemes to extract wealth, instead of creating wealth.

This is the best and most accurate video I've seen on the rise of China. CNN / FOX / MSNBC / BBC are all super biased and fake news when it comes to China coverage. Thanks for sharing your insight.

As a Chinese who has lived and worked in New York for five years, it is indeed freaking to see something like your program that at least tried to understand and analyze China in a neutral light. Please do another episode!

In China, the communist government and its media tell the Chinese what are their problems and how to solve them.

In the US, the President and US media tell the Americans that their problems are caused by China, Russia and Iran.

Ha ha ha!

This is a very thorough, accurate review of china...very objective.  it is rare for western people to have such objective view of the past and present...Great work!  why don't you see this kind of view be presented on big TV networks?  because all they present is negative views of China.

15-20 years ago, all we heard was the Republicans should run America because Republicans know all about "big business" and who could run a country better than "big business". Well, we've seen how that has worked out. The Center Right has used the US as a Monopoly board for personal enrichment, introduced the the most scurrilous business practices, and they have driven the US straight down below the hard deck. It is CLEARLY time to stop listening to them and get a new economic model.

Thank you prof Wolff for the succinct and insightful analysis. China is a complex story and there's too much propaganda from the Western mainstream media.

The Chinese model was introduced in Africa and has been producing great fruits. The old saying:  'Africa, a continent without hope', no one remembers anymore, given the incredible development that is currently taking place, thanks for China.
