The stakes just got higher in the case of Huawei’s chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou. The U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement on Tuesday that it will meet next week's January 30 deadline to file a formal request with Canadian authorities for the extradition of the Huawei CFO.

Meanwhile, addressing the Chinese media on Tuesday in Toronto, Canada's ambassador to China emphasized that Canada values the bonds shared with China and hopes the ties can grow stronger in the future.

What damage will the U.S. inflict once it proceeds with its formal extradition request? Can further diplomatic efforts calm the storm? And how will China-U.S.- Canada relations be impacted in the aftermath?

Discussion guests are Einar Tangen, political and economic commentator, and from Philadelphia, Brandon Blackburn-Dwyer, founder of Grasshopper Strategies.
