China’s economy is growing and Chinese investors are attracting German companies like never before. The focus is on know-how and technology “Made in Germany”.
China still has a lot of growth potential in many sectors and the leaders in Beijing hope their "Made in China 2025" scheme will soon see more industries leading the global markets. To expedite the process, the state is providing Chinese companies the capital to buy up firms abroad. More and more German companies are being taken over by Chinese investors. In 2016 alone, more than ten billion euros for takeovers and company investments went from China to Germany. Investors are mainly after access to the German market, German technology and German know-how. One recent example: the Truking Group’s takeover of Romaco, a supplier of packaging and processing technology. "We trust that we will catch up with our bigger competitors and one day overtake them," a proud Truking chairman told the Karlsruhe workforce. This report shows how unrelenting the investment offensive from China is and how it is all part of a masterplan. But while many entrepreneurs see the Chinese shopping tour in a positive light because it is bringing fresh capital and new prospects into companies, Jost Wübbeke from the Mercator Institute of China Studies warns: "The share of investments driven by state participation is increasing. The long-term objective is to replace foreign products with Chinese ones." One thing is certain: The vast differences between the respective economic and legal systems will present German entrepreneurs and German politicians with a huge challenge. Are business and politics prepared for the “hungry dragon”?

The Chinese strategy is way better than the westerners strategy of killing and taking over countries. The art of war is being beautifully executed by the Chinese and the west is finding it difficult to react appropriately.
It is ironic that capitalism and globalization, which are typically deemed to be the creations of the West, will effectively seal the fate of Western society. China is emulating the aggressive behaviour of the West and this will mean the end of Western domination, economically and socially. The West essentially started their own decline when they started sending their labour to China in their eternal race for cheap labour and uncapped profits. This is now their undoing. China will not stop until they dominate globally and they are well on their way to doing that. The West will not be able to compete and still feed their citizens.
As Western citizens in Europe and North America become more dissatisfied, more poor and more angry, those in power will have no choice but to start changing their culture of predatory capitalism and move towards more egalitarian programs like universal basic income. It is becoming abundantly clear that capitalism is not a long-term solution for human equality.
China is now going to show the West what the 3rd world countries have gone through when Western capitalism decimated their social and economic programs. Poverty levels in the U.S. have already increased to the point that almost half of the country is at or below the poverty line. China is going to be the dragon that takes down the eagle. Geopolitics are going to be very different in 20 years.
The context of this documentary presented in the lens of pro Germany. Things aren't as one sided as its presented. Germany enjoys a huge trade surplus with China. Another point is US companies buys and owns even more German companies than the rest of the world. Just check the merger and acquisition record in Germany.
It is true that China intellectual property protection is bad. But one cannot claim to be free market is the perfect system and then turn around and say it must also protect their own industry. Following that that logic then China is rightly also protecting its own industry.
Fact is Germany also practiced industrial policy that protects local industries when they themselves were not a developed economy. Once a countries industry is competitive then it no longer makes sense to protect it. But during its infancy all countries especially developing countries should and must protect its infant industries.
The so called level playing field is distorted in its explanation. Does First Division football club that competes in the First division competing with a third division football team be consider level playing field?
Airbus is not subsidized? Agriculture is not subsidized? All developed countries are state supported when they are still developing. The US has the US military spends the most subsidizing the tech development, Germany heavily pirated UK goods before it is developed. Norway owns their oil company and France subsidizes and support their oil company and Germany has volkswagen that is state owned during HIter's time so is SIemens.
Western people want to complain so much, how about when your ancestors starting colonization and imperialism taking other lands and resources from asian countries, spanish countries, african countries, aborigines countries. Western conquest to rule the world by force. European people force their way in with guns at the least the Chinese aren't forcing anyone. And if you want to complain just know that all these world conflicts in the past century has been dictated by Western policy. World War 2 was the white men's doing and they dragged every other non anglo countries to their unjust cause. You're history books will never tell the truth because you will be ashamed. If it was another Anglo country doing business with Germany you will be praising each other.
You cannot buyout or own a Chinese company 100%. You cant buy land in their country or for that matter you cant become a citizen of their country. Yet they take advantage of other countries openness and give nothing in return. The Chinese rise is not going to be peaceful. We saw what happened in Zimbabwe when the blacks told them they now have the same laws as them (Indigenisation Laws) and they can now only own 49% of a local company with the local holding the voting rights. What happened next -- Mugabe was kicked out and his replacement got the ok from China. You people in Europe and North America are going to learn an expensive lesson (ask Greece -- bought and paid for now---- Greece has blocked a European Union statement at the United Nations criticizing China’s human rights record,)................. continue at your own peril!
Those German Companies owners are not stupid. They chose to sell their companies and technologies to Chinese So they can occupy Chinese market which is huge. If they don't sell, some other German companies owner with similar technologise will. Then they will lose their market share globally, and finally the could lost in furthur competetion with those who sold.
germans should be cautious. the made in germany label is highly respected and it can be diluted or corrupted if trusted german products will have in their boxes the label made in PRC!
Don't let them buy anything! They are buying everything everywhere, in my country they bought the energy suppliers, water companies, the train companies, tourism companies, airlines and even the driving schools, now prices are soaring, and we are powerless to do anything, they do this in countless countries, while creating house market inflation in big capitals
DW, can you be less racist? I mean, it's not even proven to be a one-sided thing yet. If Volkswagen expands into Chinese territory, would you call it "Hungry Lederhosen: Nazi Greed"?? I mean... come on, it takes the agreement of both sides to seal a deal. What about the greed on the German side? Chinese tactics may be questionable but... It takes two to tango.
At the end of the day its just a business deal... A willing seller and a willing buyer deal. Nothing can be clearer than that.
If you think that this basic relationship will harm Germans or EU interests then teach your citizens about social responsibility or even loyalty to their nations. Perhaps then their greed for the Yuan maybe tampered and they can think out of the box to counter the Chinese or equal them at the game.
The Chinese have a love for their motherland very unlike the Europeans.
If not, accept that the days of Western domination are fast fading.
As for the others who talk about distrusting the Chinese, they are just poor losers who have shown only envy or even jealousy because they cannot compete against the Chinese.
So pathetic!
i don't get it... so the germans are whining that the chinese are getting too good at playing the games they invented?? just up your own game instead of trying to place yourself on a moral high ground. why should they reveal all their hands to you when you haven't and don't? this is mild hysteria and could totally be instrumentalized as a propaganda piece by some dickhead
You Westerner is in decline and China is on rising because your people is dumb and addicted to cheap consumerism and your politicians are greedy and short sighted. Don't blame China.
Not only are they shopping machines, but they study how the assembly lines are laid out, production flow, integration......then they will build a exact copy in China.
To be fair, thousand years ago, west didn't respect the intelligence property from China neither, like gunpowder, compass, paper, print, ofc the ((((china))) in particularly.
Germany is still living in the past, you guys talk about made in German, blabla. Those argument applied to 90' and 00'. But sad news for you, things changed. One fact here, China represent the single largest end market for almost all categories of german industrial products. Thus, China has options. China can buy german company and absorb it into Chinese supply chain, or we could destroy this German company by switch to Spain or France. Your ego is too
