I’m Robert Lawrence Kuhn and here’s what I’m watching: a backlash against China’s rise, primarily in the West. There are two kinds of expressions of this “backlash.” The first is exemplified by the US National Security Strategy, released recently by the Trump administration, in which China is said to be a “rival power” (with Russia). In essence, a “strategic competitor” and an “economic aggressor.” China is said to “challenge American power, influence, and interests, attempting to erode American security and prosperity.” Strong words

Does the US follow the rules based order ? Just ask the Iraqis, the Libyans, the Syrians, the Iranians and the Russians with US missiles at the Russian western border. And also all the Latin American countries and now currently Mexico is faced with the unruly Trump.
 Does the US keep to international agreements ? Look at the Paris Accords on Climate Change,  NAFTA,  and WTO for trade disputes settlements. The US blames other countries for subsidising exports, but it subsidises the farmers and its agricultural exports.

China is a regional and global power. The rise doesn’t not sit well with the West, therefore, they utilize conspiracy theories to counter against China, which has failed horribly.
