I think Lang Lang teaches very important thing, which is expression.
This kid plays good, but I could not see his expression of the music. LL is a great teacher!

Amazing. He explained the essence of those pieces in such a funny but clear way..exactly what kids need, (though I think this particular one was a bit scared... I wish my tutor were like him.

His detractors may say what they will but there's no denying Lang Lang is an unbelievably talented musician and individual. If you can't see/hear that, most likely you're not very talented yourself.

Many comments criticized Lang Lang as a teacher only selling the Lang Lang way of playing piano. Well this may be a stereotype of Asian teachers, but I don't see any problem in Lang Lang's teaching. Besides of correcting pupils' error, he just shared his technique, his feeling, his imagination, "his way" for the piece -- actually he didn't use any authoritative tone. So the pupils can really learn a lot from him and not just copy him. "Personality" is a long way to go, you have to savor masters' experience first, and only after that, you can build your own personality, which could be completely different and innovative, on the master's level.

I once thought that until I read his bio. He eats, breaths, and lives music. His enthusiasum is contagious. His gestures are not phony. He feels all of it.
He is trying to impart the emotion of this piece to the child. The boy knows the notes but not how to express them.

The poor child is being taught by an amateur clown, he will never know the true essence of the piece unless he's older. A child is like a robot, just doing what they are programed to and you can tell

I am not normally a Lang Lang fan, but what he did here to explain the emotions to the child was GENIUS! rofl starting at 5:12 LL is such a douche (and I mean that in an awesome way), and he did a great job of telling a story to get the child to be able to produce the style intended. That's what great teachers do.

asian parents push their kids incredibly hard. asian kids who play piano are technically very accomplished. but asians don't understand art and feeling as much as westerners do. i see this because i am asian and i live in a western country. so you a lot of asian kids who play, but play with no feeling. you see fewer western kids who play at a high level, but they understand art a lot better. western parents support their kids and let them decide what they want to do. asian parents force their kids to study, play an instrument and play sport. so often asian kids are great at instruments, but play without feeling. they academically brilliant, but they know the numbers but can't apply it and can't think laterally. they know the answers to the test, by can't apply it to real life. generally, they suck at sport regardless of their training an effort. generally, this is how it is.

I think we need to think straight here. Lang Lang offered to teach piano class, guess what he will teach? Lang Lang ! He is NOT an authoritarian regime which would gun point you to come to his piano lessons. People who come to him want to learn after him. Learn what? and what for? I think probably learn to have a little influence by his skills, style etc. Otherwise, why bother come? It's just like asking Karl Marx teach philosophy... guess what will he teach? I highly doubted if he doesn't teach any hint of Marxism............. It's a free market, and free speech, and this is what Western people are proud of the most. Then, let him teach in his style. He came democratic society value such freedom from a authoritarian regime, so, stop using authoritarian ideologies to oppress him.

A great, very natural teacher and of course, he knows every piece backwards. I think it would be hysterical if a young kid popped up there with a piece Lang Lang had never laid eyes on!! Wouldn't matter, I know. He sight reads like I do English. He's amazing!
